More about me

Colombia / UK

Where have I been?

I graduated in Industrial design in Bogotá, did my Master degree in industrial design at Domus Academy in Milan (Italy) and got my PhD from the University of Cambridge.

I worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture and Design at the Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, and was the Course Leader and Head of the Product Design Department at the Glasgow School of Art. I also worked leading the European Design Master course at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Madrid, and teaching at the BA (Hons) Product Design course at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. My teaching activity has been centred on the design project, with emphasis in design research and process. I have developed expertise on live (with industry and businesses) and social innovation projects. Currently, I am a Senior Lecturer at the University of Brighton and I am part of its teaching team at the Design Futures Programme.

My professional design experience includes work for industry, design consultancy and design entrepreneurship. I have developed projects in different areas, ranging from lighting products to exhibition stands, from furniture to product interface.

During my doctoral studies, I investigated the ways in which designers and scientists interact and collaborate in the context of scientific research. I studied how such collaboration can trigger innovation, what contribution designers can make to scientific research and identified barriers and enablers for collaboration.

My main research interests are centred around the idea of collaboration and interdisciplinarity, and I pursue both design theoretical research and research by practice activities.
